HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – Free, no-cost health care services will be brought to Hawaii Island as part of a county, state and federal Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) mission to bring services to residents.<\/p>\n

The Hawaii District Health Office (HDHO) and the County of Hawaii, in partnership with the state and federal Departments of Defense, said from June 19-28, uniformed military members will deliver no-cost medical, dental and optometry care at multiple sites and outreach locations as part of Tropic Care to Hawaii Island.<\/p>\n

HDHO said the health services will be available to all community members, with no health insurance, identification or proof of citizenship required to receive care.<\/p>\n

\u201cTropic Care allows us to bring essential health services directly into communities where access to medical, dental and vision care can be limited, helping ensure more residents receive the care they need,\u201d said Hawaii District Health Officer John Kolman.<\/p>\n

Primary sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the last patient will be checked in before 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Officials said all services are on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies and daily capacities last. <\/p>\n

Medical and dental care will be provided daily throughout the entire event<\/p>\n

HDHO said optometry dates and services vary by location. Eye exams and single-vision prescription glasses will be provided while supplies last.<\/p>\n

Prescription glasses will be available for pick-up one to two days after the exam:<\/p>\n

The county thanked the collaborative effort to support local families.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to welcome back the Department of Defense IRT team to Hawaii County,\u201d said Hawaii Island Mayor Kimo Alameda. \u201cOur community has faced its share of health challenges and this event helps our community to turn the tide by providing no-cost medical care for all. The county is appreciative of our uniformed military members and proud of the multiagency collaboration that made this event possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials said the initiative strengthens relationships between federal, county, state agencies and local community organizations while providing real-world training for military medical personnel.<\/p>\n
