Scattered showers are moving across windward and inland areas this morning, with limited rain reaching the sheltered leeward side. A high-pressure system is currently driving breezy trade winds across the state, but it will gradually weaken and move northeast through the week as a series of low-pressure systems approach from the northwest. As this happens, trade winds will ease considerably. By the latter half of the week, winds may become light enough to allow sea and land breezes to develop, which will bring afternoon clouds and showers to leeward and interior areas before clearing at night.<\/p>\n

Right now, there are scattered showers hitting the windward side and inland areas, but the sheltered leeward side is staying mostly dry. This week, the winds will gradually calm down as a weather system moves away. Today will still be breezy, but by Monday and Tuesday, things will start to ease up. By later in the week, the winds could get so light that we\u2019ll see a shift in the weather pattern\u2014afternoons might bring clouds and showers to the sheltered and inland areas, then clear up at night. Bottom line: expect some showers and wind today, but it\u2019ll get calmer and less rainy as the week goes on.<\/p>\n

A new south swell is on its way and should start showing up on the buoys by this afternoon. It\u2019ll peak Monday and Tuesday, bringing slightly bigger waves than usual for June, but nothing extreme. That swell will fade by mid-week. Then a smaller swell hits late Thursday and Friday, followed by a bigger one next weekend. On the north shore, expect tiny waves from a west-northwest swell early this week. The east-facing shores will have rough, average seasonal surf today, but it\u2019ll calm down as the week goes on and the winds ease up.<\/p>\n
