HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Prosecutors have declined to charge a man in Thursday night\u2019s deadly shooting after detectives said he acted in self-defense.<\/p>\n

It happened around 11:45 p.m. on Kauopua Street in Mililani.<\/p>\n

According to police, two men, ages 19 and 21, approached a group that was gathered in the open garage of a home where a social dice gambling event was taking place.<\/p>\n

Police said the 19-year-old threatened the group with a firearm and demanded money and property, and the second man also demanded property. During a struggle for the firearm, the 19-year-old was shot and killed, police said.<\/p>\n

During the investigation, police previously said a 21-year-old man was identified as the suspect. He turned himself in at the Kapolei Police Station and was arrested for second-degree murder Friday.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Honolulu Police Department said detectives determined the suspect arrested for second-degree murder acted in self-defense during the incident.<\/p>\n

The case was conferred with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, and murder charges were declined.<\/p>\n

Police said further investigation led to the identification of the second man who allegedly participated in the robbery attempt.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested just after 6 p.m. in Waianae on suspicion of first-degree robbery, and subsequently charged with four counts of first-degree robbery.<\/p>\n

His bail was set at $250,000.<\/p>\n

In addition, police arrested three juvenile males, ages 14, 15 and 17, who allegedly participated in the robbery before the shooting. <\/p>\n

HPD said after the shooting occurred, the teens reportedly took property that had been stolen during the robbery.<\/p>\n

The 14-year-old was arrested for four counts of first-degree robbery.<\/p>\n

The 15- and 17-year-olds were arrested for second-degree theft and first-degree hindering prosecution.<\/p>\n

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with additional information is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers Honolulu at 808-955-8300.<\/p>\n
