Deadline nearing for Kona low federal disaster assistance applications

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The deadline is approaching for residents and businesses impacted by March’s Kona low flooding to apply for federal disaster assistance.

Homeowners, renters and businesses in Honolulu, Hawaii and Maui counties have until Sunday, June 14, to apply for FEMA disaster assistance and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans.

Officials said the deadline does not affect applications that have already been started.

FEMA assistance may be available for eligible disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other sources.

Residents can apply at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA app, by calling 800-621-3362, or by visiting a Local Recovery Center.

Businesses and residents seeking SBA disaster loans can apply at sba.gov/disaster, call 800-659-2955, or visit a Local Recovery Center or Disaster Loan Outreach Center.

Officials are encouraging anyone with remaining property damage or losses to apply before the deadline.
