Gulick Avenue closed for yearlong construction on H-1 overpass
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Construction began on Gulick Avenue in Kalihi Monday morning.
The road will be fully closed for a year during demolition and reconstruction of the overpass along the H-1 Freeway.
A temporary steel pedestrian bridge that was installed in July opened Monday morning for pedestrians and cyclists to use during construction.
Work is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on weekdays.
Some local businesses are worried they’ll get fewer customers.
Gulick Delicatessen tell us they plan to cut back inventory orders to weather the disruption.

We kind of worried about this,” said Miachel Xiang of Gulick Delicatessen. “And after tear down, we are kind of worried about business going down and the people coming less.”
Nearby Beckley Street is also blocked off around the clock for the next five to seven weeks, according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
