Lifeguards revive unresponsive swimmer in Waikiki

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu lifeguards revived an unresponsive swimmer who was pulled from the water in Waikiki Saturday afternoon.

The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department said crews responded around 4:35 p.m. near Lifeguard Tower 2B.

Lifeguards found the middle-aged man unresponsive, not breathing and without a pulse.

They immediately began resuscitation efforts and used an automated external defibrillator, delivering multiple shocks.

Officials said the man regained a pulse and began breathing.

Lifeguards continued treating him until Honolulu EMS took over his care.

Ocean Safety is reminding beachgoers to stay aware of ocean conditions, remain within their abilities and seek help from lifeguards when needed.
