Free ‘Mele for Maui’ concert in West Maui celebrates resilience, healing

LĀHAINĀ (HawaiiNewsNow) – A free community concert honoring Maui’s legacy, resilience and enduring spirit will take place Saturday.

On Friday, crews were setting up for the “Mele for Maui” concert at the Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows.

The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Dane Lam, alongside acclaimed Hawaiian music artists, honoring Lāhainā, Kīhei and Kula.

Organizers said up to 70 musicians will be on stage, including artists like Raiatea Helm, Amy Hānaialiʻi Gilliom, Keola Beamer, Jeff Peterson, John Cruz and Kalaʻe Camarillo.

Pre-concert festivities begin at 4 p.m. with an artisan marketplace featuring more than 20 local Maui vendors. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and low-back beach chairs to enjoy the evening on the lawn.

“This is really a once-in-a-lifetime moment to hear this orchestra while the sun is setting here on the Kāʻanapali coast, hearing this most beautiful music ever composed for the resilience here in Maui,” said Michael-Thomas Foumai, Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra director of artistic engagement.
