Hundreds impacted by Lowell helped during Waianae food distribution event

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Cars lined up at Waianae Boat Harbor Wednesday to receive bags of groceries.

Elepaio Social Services held a food distribution event, helping more than 500 Oahu families recovering from Hurricane Lowell.

“People are still recovering from Lowell,” said Cassidy Keola from Elapaio Social Services. “It hit the Waianae coast pretty hard, and a lot of the roads were blocked out, and a lot of folks lost power.”

This was third Elapaio food distribution event since Hurricane Lowell hit the state.

Families were given items such as eggs, fruit, canned goods, and vegetables.

“Being able to provide for the community and thank all our volunteers here, it means a lot for folks, to not just have food, but also community,” Keola said.

More than 40,000 pounds of food was distributed at Wednesday’s event.
