Crews respond to wastewater spill at Hanapepe Fire Station

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Kauai County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) responded to a wastewater spill caused by equipment failure at the Hanapepe Fire Station Sewer Pump Station Saturday.

DPW’s Division of Wastewater Management responded to the spill at noon due to a broken coupler. The spill then entered an adjacent storm drain.

Officials said the spill volume is approximately 1,200 gallons.

At 3 p.m., the county said crews restored the equipment to operational status and thoroughly disinfected the area.

The county has notified the Hawaii Department of Health.
