Schools and government offices on Kauai to remain closed through Friday

LĪHUʻE (HawaiiNewsNow) – State and county offices, along with the Kauaʻi Community College, will remain closed through Friday, Sept. 11, as crews work to restore power, remove debris, and address extensive storm impacts across the island.

The state Judiciary is currently assessing facilities and capacity in Kaua‘i County and will announce operational plans when plans are finalized.

All public schools on Kauaʻi and Niʻihau High & Elementary School will also remain closed to students through Friday.

Families, students, and employees should check the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education website and social media channels for the latest school closure and reopening information.

Severe impact on county facilities and services

All county parks, campgrounds, and the Wailua Golf Course are closed until further notice.

All refuse transfer stations and all refuse collection services are suspended until further notice due to numerous road closures. The Kekaha Landfill is open for residents only; however, officials urged residents to stay off the roads if debris blocks access to the landfill.

The Kauaʻi Bus has suspended all service due to safety concerns. County officials noted that buses had previously been supporting transportation to refuge areas.

All Department of Land and Natural Resources state parks and state forest reserves are closed until further notice. Additionally, the Pacific Missile Range Facility has closed its recreational guest pass program and recreational sites until further notice.
