UH men’s volleyball holds final practice ahead of NCAA semifinal match

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team hit the court ahead of Saturday’s national semifinal match against Long Beach State.

The team says they are focused on the task at hand and ready for redemption after falling to Long Beach in the Big West Conference championship a few weeks ago.

“It’s a lot of revenge,” middle blocker Trevell Jordan said. “They brought it to us and we just weren’t ready. We just didn’t have the drive. And now we have the drive to bring it to them, give it back to the beating that they gave us.”

“I’ll just say it’s personal,” libero Quintin Greenidge added.

Hundreds of the UH fans are expected to turn UCLA’s Pauly Pavilion green and white on Saturday in what could feel like a home court advantage for the ‘Bows.

“The number of Hawaii fans that show up all over the country, especially here on the West Coast, is humbling,” head coach Charlie Wade said. “It really is and we’re so appreciative of their support. I know they’ll be a big crowd out there on Saturday night and we’re desperate to give them another win.”

There was another big win for Hawaii this week off the court.

Associate head coach Kupono Fey and his wife, Tessa, welcomed their first child earlier this week in Honolulu.

Fey, who stayed back for the birth of his son, rejoined the team in Los Angeles on Friday.

“Baby was born on Tuesday, wife is well, she’s healthy and recovering well and baby is healthy,” Fey said. “We have such an amazing staff here and the boys are great, they really held down the fort too while I’m gone.”
