Kamehameha Highway in Windward Oahu reopens after severe flooding
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Flooding temporarily closed Kamehameha Highway from Waikane Valley Road to Waiahole Valley Road for roughly two hours Sunday afternoon.

The Honolulu Police Department closed the highway in both directions at around 3:45 p.m. due to the flooding, with water reaching about 2.5 feet over the road.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until 5:30 p.m. as heavy showers spread over Windward Oahu, with heavy rain falling at 1 to 3 inches per hour over the Central Koolau Mountains.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimated Waiahole Stream reached its highest level at over 16 feet just after 3 p.m.

Police and fire crews have responded to the area.
As of 5:23 p.m., officials said the road has been reopened.
