HDOT: Airlines may cancel flights as Hurricane Lowell approaches Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Department of Transportation says airlines may be cancelling flights Sunday and Monday ahead of Hurricane Lowell.

The Category 3 system is approaching the islands, and is forecast to bring tropical storm conditions across Kauai and Niihau by Monday afternoon.

According to HDOT, all airports, including Līhuʻe Airport, will remain open unless unsafe conditions arise.

Travelers should check with their airline directly for information regarding delays, cancellations, or other changes before heading to the airport.

Southwest Airlines said in a statement, “Our teams are monitoring the storm and will modify scheduled service if needed, but currently we do not have any advisories in place. Customers are encouraged to visit Southwest.com or the Southwest app to confirm their flight’s status.”
