Multiple crashes involving motorcycles, mopeds leave several riders injured on Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Four separate crashes involving motorcycles or mopeds on Oahu resulted in serious or critical injuries within a 12-hour period Monday night and Tuesday morning.

All but one of the collisions involved other vehicles, but only the riders and passengers on the bikes were injured.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the first crash in Waialua at 7:38 p.m. Monday. A 59-year-old woman was treated for several serious injuries, including a head injury, after her moped crashed into another vehicle. She was not wearing a helmet, according to EMS.

A collision involving a motorcycle was reported in Laie around at 8:52 p.m. EMS said a 57-year-old man suffered several serious injuries after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Kamehameha Highway. He was wearing a helmet.

Just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, a 57-year-old moped rider was critically injured when he crashed into another vehicle in Ewa Beach and was thrown onto the roadway. Police said he ran a red light while turning left from Renton Road onto Fort Weaver Road. He was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

A 20-year-old man and 19-year-old woman riding together were also injured when their motorcycle hit a curb and then a pole in Manoa. EMS says both of them were wearing helmets and sustained serious injuries.

EMS treated all five riders at the scene before transporting them to a hospital.
