Authorities say pallets of concrete blocks, columns, and walls were demolished sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

Construction on a new school restroom was set to be completed by early January, however, that timeline will likely be pushed back by months due to the act of vandalism.

The Office of the Attorney General is investigating the reports.

“This was actually somebody breaking concrete blocks, and some of those blocks were not just sitting on a pallet, but they were also in the wall,” said Diane Ako, the communications officer for the Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services, also known as DAGS. “DAGS would like to say that we are deeply disappointed in the people in that community who chose to do this because this is a structure that’s intended to serve the keiki and the larger community, and why would you go in and do this?”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Maui Police Department.
