Woman critically injured in H-1 hit-and-run

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a woman critically injured early Sunday morning.

Police said the crash happened around 1 a.m. on the H-1 Freeway eastbound in the Waipahu area.

Investigators said an unidentified driver traveled onto the right shoulder and rear-ended a vehicle that was parked there.

The driver then continued eastbound and took the Pearl City off-ramp without stopping to provide information or render aid.

A 54-year-old woman who was sitting in the rear of the parked vehicle was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It is not yet known whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors.
