UH soccer gets first win of the season, downing Idaho, 2-0

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii soccer team got it’s first win of the season on Saturday.

The ‘Bows downed Idaho, 2-0 to wrap up the Outrigger Soccer Invitational.

Senior transfer Anuhea Aluli netted the first goal at the 24th minute in chaotic fashion — this was the Kamehameha Kapalama graduate’s second goal of the year.

Then in the 79th minute, freshman Olivia Dianda snagged her second goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Justin kept the clean sheet to seal the deal against the Vandals.

“For us to able to get a win versus a seasoned opponent like this, it really shows the amount of growth we have,” Justin told Hawaii News Now’s Cienna Pilotin following the match. “Once our returners get back, I mean, we’re gonna be pretty good.”

The ‘Bows showing improvement after a sluggish performance against Western Michigan, a 3-1 loss on Thursday.

“I have a ton of respect for (the Idaho) coaching staff, we’ve been friends for many, many years, so we knew this was going to be a game,” Head coach Michele Nagamine said. “For us to come out and get the first win on our home field sure does feel good, I’m really happy for the women.”
