Maui police arrest Wailuku man after barricade incident

WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 36-year-old Wailuku man is in custody after allegedly violating an order for protection and barricading himself inside a residence Wednesday morning, police said.

Officers responded to the home on Hoowaiwai Loop at approximately 8:08 a.m. The Maui Police Department also deployed its Special Response Team and K-9 Unit.

As a safety precaution, nearby Puʻu Kukui Elementary School initiated its safety protocol and neighboring residences were temporarily evacuated, police said.

The man was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 a.m., police said. No one was hurt.

He was arrested for one count of violation of an order for protection and taken to the Wailuku Police Station for processing.

Bail was set at $20,000, and police said additional charges may be applicable as the investigation continues.
