Fire at Waihee home displaces 3

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Three people are displaced after a fire damaged their Maui home Thursday morning.

The Maui Fire Department said the firefighters were called to the area of the former Mendes Ranch on Kahekili Highway at 8:34 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews found the single-story, single-family home engulfed in flames.

The narrow, unpaved driveway was inaccessible to firefighting vehicles, so firefighters deployed hoses to extinguish the flames and keep the fire from spreading to nearby brush.

MFD said it took until noon for firefighters to fully extinguish the fire and return to the station.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
