Kitten given life-changing surgery and new Pahoa home

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A kitten with a birth defect was recently given life-changing surgery and a new home in Pahoa.

Pretzel was born in a Mountain View garage in February, with two twisted back legs that dragged behind her.

Allie Fishburb fostered the cat through Action 4 Animals and eventually adopted her.

“From the beginning, though, she really still could get around,” Fishburb recalled. “But as she grew, her legs grew and they became heavy and she had to pull them around and it got more difficult as time went.”

Action 4 Animals paid about $1,500 to have Pretzel’s legs removed at Big Island Pet Center in Keeau.

“Each day she gets better and better,” Fishburb said. “She’s moving around. She seems happier than can be now.”
