Firefighters airlift seriously injured woman after fall on Lanikai Pillbox Trail

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Honolulu Fire Department responded to an injured hiker at the Lanikai Pillbox in Kailua on Thursday.

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:25 p.m. and responded shortly after, and began ascending the trail on foot to search by ground.

The second-arriving unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations.

Officials said that a 53-year-old woman was hiking and fell, sustained an ankle injury, multiple abrasions, and could not continue on her own.

Firefighters on foot arrived at her side at 6:46 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction.

Air 1 transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 7:16 p.m.

Honolulu EMS treated the patient and transported her to an emergency room in serious condition for further treatment.
