Kauai teens explore state at sea in Sea Scout program

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A group of local teens is spending the summer learning what it takes to live and work on the ocean.

Fifteen Kauaʻi Sea Scouts stopped on Oahu Sunday as part of a two-week voyage across the state.

Each teen is assigned a job aboard the boat, where every decision can affect the entire crew.

“A big part is community and working together and trusting each other,” said Sea Scout Luca Des Marais. “If you don’t all work together, then everything goes out of flow.”

Former program alumni have gone on to maritime careers. The group’s next voyage is set for the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend.
