State gives update on Daniel K. Inouye Highway repaving, safety work
HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – Drivers on Hawaii Island should expect delays on parts of Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road, as repaving and safety work continues.

Repaving work, open-graded friction course (OGFC) and hydroplaning reduction on DKI Highway between mileposts 10 and 22.5 is taking place weekly, Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One lane is closed between mileposts 10 and 19.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation gave an update on the project Thursday:
HDOT said all work is weather permitting, and due to weather conditions since the start of OGFC installation, estimated completion has been revised to October.

After a recent string of traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island, the Hawaii Department of Transportation declared a traffic emergency zone along a portion of the highway.
Officials said the state Department of Law Enforcement will increase enforcement presence along the route.
