Body found in Waimea identified as missing Honokaa woman

WAIMEA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A body found in Waimea last month was identified as a missing Honokaa woman.

Sarah Marie Andes, 64, was reported as an endangered missing person on June 3.

She was considered endangered due to a medical condition.

On the morning of June 30, Hawaii Island police initiated a coroner’s inquest after finding a body in a stream near Kawaihae Road.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was discovered, according to police.

An autopsy Monday positively identified the decedent as Andes.

The cause of death remains undetermined, pending the results of toxicology testing.

Officers say foul play is not suspected.

According to the original missing persons report, Andes was last seen Tuesday, June 2, at 6:30 a.m., at the Pukalani Road bus stop in Waimea.

At this time police have not been able to contact any family members or next of kin.
