After nearly two months of testimony from more than 60 witnesses, the jury unanimously found him guilty after less than five hours of deliberation.

Crowds of loved ones and law enforcement gathered outside the courtroom shortly before the verdict was announced.

The case was legally challenging for prosecutors, as Maya’s body has still never been found. The case was based on circumstantial evidence.

The jury found Larry guilty of killing the mother of his three children in 2021 and hiding her body after she planned to file for divorce.

Maya’s sister, Maricris Drouaillet, was present for the verdict announcement.

“Justice has probably been served today, but we still have my sister out there,” Drouaillet said. “We still have a second step to go through. We still have to bring my sister home, to bring her to her three children that have been waiting for five years.”

Drouaillet made the initial phone call to police when Maya went missing.

“She is still out there,” said Dan Peak, assistant chief of the Chula Vista Police Department. “She is still missing. And we are going to work tirelessly to continue looking for her and try to find her and bring her home.”
