The two titans of mixed martial arts will clash on Saturday, July 11, in Las Vegas.

A fight over a decade in the making, the two squared off in 2013 — with McGregor winning via unanimous decision.

This was prior to either fighter holding a UFC title, with the bout setting the course for both fighters’ accomplished careers.

“You live, you learn, you know? Every loss to us is a learning experience and that’s all it was,” Holloway said. “I got to do some great things after that. He did some great things and we’re here now 13 years later, and I’m excited.”

The rematch will be fought at the welterweight division with the Waianae native fighting at 170 pounds for the first time.

Holloway is preparing for the main event without a severe weight cut. He also brought in former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena to help him adjust to the new weight class.

“We were only supposed to train together for a week. We loved it so much, he ended up staying for a second week,” Holloway said. “I think so bringing him in was huge. It was good fun, and we’ll get to find out Saturday night. It’s gonna be fun.”

Holloway has been one of the more active fighters in the UFC while on the other side of the octagon, McGregor hasn’t fought since 2021 after suffering a lower leg injury.

For Holloway, that doesn’t change his approach to the fight.

“He’s doing all the right things,” Holloway said. “So I’m getting ready for the most dangerous Conor McGregor we ever saw, and nobody’s telling me otherwise, ‘cause once you start overlooking people, things don’t go too well for you.”

McGregor opened his press conference with: “Hallelujah, the Mac is back.”

The notorious McGregor has never been shy about sharing his opinion, but during UFC 329 media day, a more reserved McGregor even praised his opponent.

“He has a deep body of work inside the octagon, fought many a man,” McGregor said of Holloway. “It’s a great opponent, a great event, great fight week, great international fight week. I’m very, very happy here.”

McGregor still had to dispel chatter of his long absence from the fight game.

“People are entitled to their opinion. Some are valid, you know, there’s some questions. Time out, injury, lifestyle, yadda yadda yadda, I know,” McGregor said. “We’re going to go in Saturday night and shut them all up again.”

Despite the colossal hype and fanfare for this fight, Holloway is looking at it as an opportunity to avenge one of his first losses in the UFC.

“It’s just big,” Holloway said. “I finally get the right or wrong and I’m looking forward to it.”

UFC 329 begins Saturday at 11 a.m. Hawaii time with the early prelims. The main card is set to start at 3 p.m. Hawaii time, streaming on Paramount+.
