Mayor Blangiardi hosts public Declaration of Independence reading
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Mayor Rick Blangiardi hosted a public reading of the Declaration of Independence Wednesday.

The ceremony, held at Honolulu Hale, commemorated the first public reading of the document on July 8, 1776, in Philadelphia and is part of the city’s America 250 celebration.
“This is a great moment for our city right now that we get to share together were part of making history with other cities across the country,” Blangiardi said.

Blangiardi was joined by members of the Honolulu Youth Commission and community leaders, who read portions of the historic document.
The event also featured performances by the Royal Hawaiian Band and the Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaii.
