The facility, located near the park’s entrance parking lot, was funded and built through a community-led partnership between Hui Makaainana o Makana and its nonprofit partner, The Hanalei Initiative, before being transferred to the state.
The new restroom provides visitors with facilities upon arriving at the park. Previously, the nearest restroom was a five- to 10-minute walk from the parking lot.

The new comfort station also includes a solar-powered wastewater treatment system designed to reduce impacts on the park’s environmentally and culturally sensitive areas.
