Woman killed in H-1 Freeway crash near Aala St. overpass identified

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A woman who died in a crash that shut down the H-1 Freeway westbound in Honolulu for more than three hours Saturday has been identified.

The Honolulu medical examiner identified her Monday as Savalivali Vivao, 28.

Police officers responded to the single-vehicle crash just before 6 p.m. Saturday near the Aala Street overpass.

It was reported to police that Vivao was traveling west on the H-1 Freeway when, for unknown reasons, she crossed all lanes of traffic and crashed into the concrete center median.

Sources said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

HPD said Vivao not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

At this time, police said speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.

The crash closed all westbound lanes of the freeway in the area until around 10:10 p.m.

During the closure, access was restricted to emergency vehicles and westbound drivers were diverted off the freeway at the North School Street cutoff.
