Two earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 killed more than 1,700, according to the country’s government. Many remain missing and thousands were left homeless.
Rosalys Garcia Nunez, an estimating project manager at Island Facility Services in Waianae, is from La Guaira. The city, along with Venezuela’s capital of Caracas, was hit hardest by the earthquakes.
“I’m lucky that my family in the area are alive. We’re lucky. But I can’t say the same for a lot of friends I grew up with and their families. They’re still missing or dead,” Nunez said.
