2 dead, 4 injured in head-on crash on Hawaii Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two people died, and four people were injured on Friday after a head-on crash on Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

The Hawaii Island Police Department reported the highway was closed in both directions between the 13 and 14 mile markers at about 4 p.m.

The public was advised to avoid the area for several hours due to a vehicle collision and police investigation.

Sources confirmed that two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition by an American Medical Response vehicle.

A Hawaii County ambulance transported three others in serious condition to Hilo Benioff Medical Center.
