The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney said Detor Sirom, 37, was indicted on one count of attempted murder in the first degree, five counts of attempted murder in the second degree, and multiple firearms-related charges.

The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Keeaumoku Street and Kapiolani Boulevard, resulting in the death of Jashawn Wakefield, 23.

Court documents: Shooting stemmed from argument

Newly released court documents allege the incident began in a parking lot on Keeaumoku Street, when Wakefield and four other men got into an argument with a man, later identified as Sirom, and a female juvenile. Police said Sirom pointed a firearm at the men before leaving.

Court documents said Wakefield and the men moved to a parking lot on Makaloa Street, and Sirom and the juvenile arrived with several other people, prompting a chase.

Documents said during the chase, Sirom and Wakefield exchanged fire, and Wakefield was hospitalized at The Queen’s Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He later died.

Hawaii News Now was there when police arrested Sirom Monday afternoon near Auwaiolimu and Whiting streets. He was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and place to keep pistol.

The prosecutor’s office said it would not elaborate on why the charges were changed as the investigation is ongoing.

Sirom is being held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

If convicted of first-degree attempted murder — or convicted of second-degree attempted murder and subsequently sentenced as a multiple offender — Sirom faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, the office said.
