New park signs recognize volunteers, redirect sticker vandalism
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – New signs are going up in city parks across Oahu to recognize community volunteers—and to encourage visitors to help keep public spaces clean.
The City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation is installing new Adopt a Park signs featuring participating volunteer groups, the program logo and the motto “E alu pū kākou,” or “Let’s go forward together.”
Officials said the signs honor volunteers who help maintain parks, improve facilities and support recreational programs throughout Oahu.
“We are so blessed to have an amazing community of volunteers all around Oahu, providing a wide variety of services to help us maintain and improve our shared spaces,” said Adopt a Park Volunteer Coordinator Denny Higa.

The department is also placing bright orange signs at select locations asking visitors to put stickers only in designated areas instead of on park signage. The signs debuted at Kuilei Cliffs Beach Park near Diamond Head and have since been added at the summit of Koko Crater.
DPR said more than 30,000 volunteers contributed nearly 360,000 hours of service in City parks and gardens in 2025. There are currently 90 active Adopt a Park agreements across Oahu.
Residents interested in joining the Adopt a Park program can learn more through the department’s volunteer program.
